The trend
What is the Day of the Dead AI Video?
On Día de Muertos, families in Mexico and around the world build an ofrenda and light the way home with cempasúchil marigolds, because the tradition says the people they love come back to visit for a night. This year a short video format has become part of it: a star falls onto a marigold path, and the person you miss walks out of its light toward you.
Upload one photo of them, choose a scene and you get a twelve-second vertical clip with their face kept and soft guitar underneath: on the petal path, beside their ofrenda, among monarch butterflies, in the candlelit cemetery, or, if you prefer they stay still, as a portrait glowing on the altar. They never speak, and there are no skeletons or spooky effects: it is a tribute, not a Halloween filter.
Who to cast
- My grandmother's first Día de Muertos
- Papá in his Sunday hat
- A friend who left too early
- Both grandparents, one after the other
- Our dog who walked with us for years
- A still portrait for the family altar

How to use
How the video generator works
- 01
Upload their photo
One person, the face clear and not too small. An old or scanned photo is fine; restore a damaged one first with Old Photo Restoration.
- 02
Choose a scene
The star brings them home, beside their ofrenda, monarch butterflies, the candlelit cemetery, or a still portrait on the altar. Add a detail they would recognise, like their favourite hat.
- 03
Share it on November 1 or 2
Download the clip and post it with their name and a few words, or send it to the family. Each clip takes a few minutes.
